At New York Fashion Week this year, body positivity and diversity were put at the forefront of things as plus size models were featured on the runway showcasing statement pieces from different A-list designers. A few plus size models have walked the run way in the past, but this year at NYFW, things took a different turn thanks to designers like Christian Siriano, Chromat, Tracy Reese and Byron Lars who decided to push the boundaries of high fashion standards, paving the way for more diversity and inclusion for the runway.
There were not just plus size designers featuring plus size models, but straight sized designers made clothes in sizes from 0-22 and up. Their pieces were worn by a diverse array of plus size models, Georgia Pratt, Precious Lee, Marquita Pring, Alessandra Garcia, Denise Bidot, Sabina Karlsson, Liris Crosse, Jenna Rusnak, Danielle and Frankie Tavares and so many more talented plus models.
Another model who was also sashayed her way down the runway was popular model Ashley Graham who showed her collaborative lingerie collection with Addition Elle.
We are hoping that more designers will start embracing body positivity and feature more plus size models in their upcoming collections but right now, we’ll have a curvy cocktail or two in honour of these SHE-roes who are fearlessly making it happen for the global curvy community!
